these are photographs taken at DeepCut Park in Monmouth County New Jersey from about 1992 to 2002. in the park is a rockery with an unusual pile of rocks known as Mt Vesuvius.
an urban legend states that the owner of the park who built Mt. Vesuvius used it to create a smokey fire visible from the ocean to alert bootleggers when the coast was clear to enter port. but based on the timeline of park dates this story seems unlikely to be true.
